I have been surprised at the amount of stutterers looking into various types of drugs that could help them with their stutter. The drugs are powerful, often addictive and often linked with changing you behaviorally.

Alcohol is frowned upon as a cure to stutter because it changes you, destroys your liver and makes you a drunk. I personally see little different with the drugs being knocked around by some people who stutter.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yes, I personally am not a fan of drugs. For one thing, it implies that there is something medically wrong with a person who stutters which I am not so sure about. I see it more as a bad habit that you cant shake.

Secondly, I believe a stutter is more of a symptom than an disease (metaphorically). Often there is more to a persons stutter than just the speech, and for a permanent result, all areas need to be addressed.

I personally have not used drugs as a remedy so I cant say first hand. But I did use alcohol for about 10 years and I definately would not recommend that as a long term solution. It was not a proud era of my life, thats for sure. :)
