Hello. I would prefer to keep myself anonymous for now. I have something I think I should tell you. I myself have a stutter. It’s mild to moderate depending on the situation. Since July 2008 I have started taking fish oil and about a month later I started taking a herb hyssop. I have noticed a 10-20+% decrease in my stuttering and a few of my “blocks” have been significantly reduced or almost eliminated. Don’t share this with any stuttering associations or institutions because I tried that and they said they said that they won’t test it out or look into it because it’s not clinically tested. Nor are my results clinically tested. I am telling you this because I think it will help you.

I will tell you this about myself. I’m 19, about 6’2”, and about 180 pounds. I am telling you this so that you can determine appropriate dosages of hyssop.

I would like to warn you that I’ve read that too much hyssop can lead to seizures or a bloody nose I think.

Here is information about hyssop. http://www.popsci.com/scitech/article/2005-08/brain-boosters. Scroll down to where it talks about water hyssop.

Here is more information about hyssop. http://www.herbalremedies.com/brahmi-information.html, http://www.herbcompanion.com/Health/Give-Your-Brain-a-Boost-with-Bacopa.aspx

Here is my dosage of this treatment: 4-1000mg pills of fish oil in the morning and 2-445mg pills of hyssop 3 times a day during mealtimes. 2 times a day for hyssop is ok also as I don’t take this at school.

As far as the hyssop goes for stuttering, since I noticed that the hyssop reduced my stuttering by about 20%, I noticed that one website said that there was a study of patients in 1980 that reported a 20% decrease in anxiety. I figured then that one cause of stuttering may be anxiety. There was also a website listed above that said something about tribes using the herb to treat stuttering and that’s where I first found that out about hyssop. Anyway, I did some research on herbs used to treat anxiety but not all the herbs listed in a website that I am going to provide with a list. Some herbs had reports of liver toxicity or other bad side effects so I decided to stay away from those.

After doing a decent amount of research on lemon balm, I decided to buy it. Since I have started using the lemon balm over the last 2-3 days I noticed that very few of my hard “blocks” have been partially reduced.

Here is a website that gives you numbers of decreased anxiety. http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2007/aug2007_report_stress_anxiety_01.htm
Scroll down on this website to the topic “clinical study shows effects against anxiety, insomnia” and also notice the time span before those percentages took place. What I’m trying to say is that anxiety just won’t go away overnight. I’ve looked at other websites but this is one of the only ones I could find that gives me a percentage of decrease in anxiety. Any other website I go onto just gives general information like calms muscles, decreases anxiety, etc.

Here is a website that gives you a list of good herbs for anxiety. http://www.iampanicked.com/anxiety-articles/herbs-for-anxiety.htm

Here is the lemon balm I buy- http://www.herbalremedies.com/14650.html

My dosage of this is 3 490 mg capsules in the morning, sometimes 2 at lunch, and 3 about an hour before bedtime.

I can't say what will work good for you because everyone's different.

If the lemon balm on the given site gets sold out, just google it and find a site to buy it off of.

I would like to add that after taking this lemon balm for about a month or two, something within that time frame, talking is much easier. My stuttering has been significantly reduced. Words that I used to have lots of trouble saying I have almost no trouble. I am still not stutter free but I think that this may be a cure for mild to some moderate stutterers or close to a cure or a very good treatment.

I have found another good treatment for stuttering. It’s called passionflower. After taking it for a few days some of the harder words for me to pronounce even after the previous treatment aren’t as hard. Since some of the side effects are dizziness or drowsiness I only take this about an hour before I go to bed even though it says to take it 3 times a day. I get alcohol-free passionflower extract and take about 15 drops of it with some water and mix them in a cup. You should experiment with different amounts to see what works for you. I take 3 capsules of lemon balm and 15 drops of passionflower extract each night. Experiment to see what works for you.

Here are some links with information about passionflower:

Out of all the other anxiety herbs I’ve researched for moderate or severe anxiety, this herb had the least amount of bad side effects.

Here is a google search that gives you different places to get passionflower liquid extract alcohol free, although I'm not sure if every listing is alcohol free. Look for yourself. http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=buy+passionflower+liquid+extract+alcohol+free&sa=N&start=0

I’ve found one more herb that’s better than lemon balm and maybe even passionflower. It’s called oatstraw. I have read that it is useful for when experiencing extreme nervousness and anxiety. And it has no side effects like drowsiness or anything. The bottle may say to take 2 capsules but I like taking 4. Experiment with what you want. My stuttering has been even further reduced I would have to say and I’ve only taken this stuff for maybe 3 days. This is the strongest anti anxiety herb that I’ve researched and found that has no side effects. Another name for this herb is avena sativa.

Here is some information about oat straw:

Here is a site you can buy it off of: http://www.herbsmd.com/detail/avena-sativa-10258.htm. If you need to find a different website just use google and search.

As far as the oatstraw goes, after I've been taking it on a daily basis for maybe 3 weeks now 3 times a day, many words I used to stutter are either reduced or eliminated. I am completely fluent with some words I used to stutter. I've been taking 2 oatstraw capsules 3 times a day, sometimes I may take 4 if I feel like it, and I've just been improving fluency. And as I said some words I have no trouble saying at all in many situations. I do think that this oatstraw is a treatment/cure for stuttering. If I may say, I've noticed that the brain signal from whichever part of my brain produces the speech goes completely through to whichever part of my brain allows me to say the word. That's why I use the word cure. Even for words that I used to stutter or block a lot with are reduced or eliminated with oatstraw usage.

And if anyone out there sees this post and has any account with any other stuttering websites or forums, put this info in there as it will help others. Thanks.

I would like to make an update with my fluency. I've been taking my daily dosage of oatstraw and maybe a little more sometimes and words that I used to stutter a lot are being reduced. I've been taking oatstraw for around a month maybe.

I would like to say that as of the last day or two to this point I noticed a different part of my brain helping me out with my speech. It feels like it's in a different location in my brain than the first location was where I was feeling all the brain signals go to. It makes me even more confident that I'm able to say a word and enables me to say words easier.

I would like to update that I have been taking oatstraw for about 2 months now and that every here and there I take 2 capsules 4 times a day. Words that I used to have lots of trouble saying I am starting to feel the brain signal more and more to. Some words I used to have lots of trouble saying I can say almost perfectly but I do feel struggle still but if I'm relaxed and talk slow most of the struggling goes away. I would say that at this point I am 91% fluent tops with many blocks reduced or eliminated.
