Before you start even the simplest of journeys, it always helps to know where you are going. Also, just as importantly, you need to be crystal clear about why you want to go there. The clearer and more compelling the reason the greater your drive will be to get there no matter what stands in your way, or how many wrong turns you make.
I remember the first time I truly tried imagining myself as fluent. I got the shock of my life. It was the first time that I realised that I stutter in my thoughts. I was picturing myself giving a speech, and I made it so real in my head that I actually began to stutter in my own imagination. It was when I realised that my stutter may be something I am doing, rather than something that is being done to me. It was then that I realised that fluency could be learned. I need to practice precise fluency in my head, and I need to imagine it so that I truly enjoy speaking. That's the beauty of the imagination. You can be or do anything you want, so if you find yourself unable to do some things in your head, you need to take an honest look at why you may be holding yourself back. You may find it very interesting. I know I did.
Set aside some time each day to practice. Each day try to make it more and more fun. Always look for new ways to improve it. Learn to practice in different situations. When you are standing in line for something, imagine a long and humorous conversation with the person next to you. Imagine yourself at your charming best. I always say "Don't hope to be normal - Dare to be extraordinary." Imagine yourself as the life of the party where ever you go. You have the power. Enjoy it.
Till next time, have fun with it.
